Extreme Art Sizes

People does art in a huge difference of size. Although there were standard on the size like a4, a3, a1, b2, etc., they still made much more bigger or much more smaller size for their artworks.
Like this person who made a tiniest sculpture in the world, on a sewing needle hole, Willard Wigan. He made his sculpture using a grain of sand which is slowly carved  and painted them. This super small size sculpture was even taken looking through a microscope.

Another one is the world's largest artwork by Joe and Max in London. They did the largest 3D painting with 12490.441 square feet in size.

Sculpture

Sculpture is one of the main branch in fine art. Sculpture is a piece of 3D works that uses various mediums like clay, woods, steel, wire, found objects, etc. There were also various techniques, such as carving, molding, assembling, etc. carving usually uses woods or metal plate as its medium. carving tools like carving knives were used to cut off some parts so it builds up a new form. While molding usually uses clay as its medium. A synthetic material is used to make the molder and after that another craving tools were used for touch up. Lastly, assembling was a technique to reconstruct things, putting up things together harmoniously. Anykind of things can be used for assemblage, such as found objects, woodblocks, and many more.

Colors

Every color has their own meaning psycologically and physically. There were colors like red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and there were neutral color like brown, black, grey, and white.
Red means bravery, and energetic. Also considered to draw attention so it was mainly used for danger signs.
Orange is a mixture between red and yellow. It does have a barve and enegry but in a lighter way and also has the happy side.
Yellow means enlightment, happiness, joy, and creativity.
Green means balance between cool and warm (blue and yellow), ecofriendly, fresh. But sometimes it could be interprated as sickness and slime.
Blue means calmness and soothing. Sometimes it could be cold and freezing.
Purple means balance, royal and creative.

Neutral colors has less emotions than the colourful. It has more elegance and depth. Black has elegance and darkness. While white is pureness and clear.

Sauce Dispensiing Chopstick

Sauce dispensing chopstick was design by Michelle Cheung. It was creatively made by adding a sauce dispensing to a chopstick for the lazy people nowadays. It works by pressing the tube and the sauce will come out from the tip of the chopstick. You can actually buy this chopstick, but since it was not world widely known so it was a bit pricey.
I think this chopstick was very innovative. Especially these days there are
more people getting lazy even to do small things like dipping the food to the sauce. Beside the function I also like the design. I think it looks cool with half transparent filled with some liquid.

"The Children Who Chase Lost Voices"

"The Children Who Lost Voices" was a movie made by Makoto Shinkai in 2009 and released on 2011. it was an adventure, romance, fantasy movie which has a very nice story line and unique character designs.
Sinca Shinkai was inspired by Hayao Miyazaki, he made some characters, the creatures a bit similar to Miyazaki's Nausicaa.
The story was very unusual, full of fantasy. He made as if myth were true in the movie, and also he showed how strong love is in a different way, extraordinary. But the thing that i do not really like from this movie is the dubbed version. The dubber voice did not goes really well with the character. so the feel is not really felt for me.

Makoto Shinkai

Makoto Shinkai is a Japanese graphic designer, illutstrator and a film director. He was born in 1973 and went to shuo university in Japan for his studies. He started his career on 1994 after he graduated. he works for 5 years at falcom, a game company doing short movie clip and making game websites. Then in 1999 he made a short clip around 5 minutes titled "She and Her Cat". The animation won a grand pize in an animation contest and then in 2000 he started to think to start to his own movie, "Voices of a Distant Star" and followed by "The Place Promise in Early Days" in 2004. He take a rest to London in 2008 and then made another film "children who chase lost voice in the deep" that was released in 2011 was quite famous. and
He was called "the Next Miyazaki" since he does anime movie just like Hayao Miyazaki. I like his art a lot, the last movie that he made "Gardens of Words" has a very nice animation. Especially how he does the rain effect since usually people made rain effect just by using straight lines in same direction, but Shinkai made in like natural rain where the raindrops goes in random direction and he made the splash effect on the ground with water effects.

ENPA poster

This is a poster from September 2009 about raising the publics’ awareness on animal testing. Using domestic animals as a medium for tests are very common for cosmetics, but many people buy these products without knowing this fact. The poster highlights the issue with a bold image. It shows a puppy lying dead in a pool of blood made of various red colored cosmetic items.

The poster is effective in guilt-tripping people who buy these products. It delivers a message saying that every time you buy a product, you are inadvertently killing an animal. The poster uses a puppy since it is cute and portrays the innocence of the animals. The striking red color is very vibrant and provides contrast with the grey, making the poster stand out.

Bacon Alarm Clock

The Bacon Alarm Clock is a new idea that is not widely available yet, but I think this is a very creative idea and has the potential to be successful. It provides a funny alternative way of waking someone up. Traditionally, alarm clocks only use loud, annoying beeping sounds, but The Bacon Alarm Clock adds a twist by letting the aroma of freshly cooked bacon to wake us up.
To use this clock, you just need to put frozen bacon inside the cute pig-shaped clock before you go to sleep. The next day, 10 minutes before the set time, the clock will start cooking the bacon so you can wake up to the mouthwatering smell.

Anti-Theft Lunch Bags

The Anti-Theft Lunch Bags are plastic zipper bags with green splotches painted on both sides. These splotches are made to look like fungus on a expired moldy bread, so if a sandwich is placed inside the bag, the bread will look moldy and spoiled. These bags are also reusable. It is a simple yet genius idea to stop people from eating your packed lunch. Who would want to steal bread that looks this disgusting?
I think the Anti-Theft Lunch Bag is a good example to show that with a creative mind, where you can make a very interesting and quirky idea from a seemingly normal things to solve problems effectively.

The Wind Rises

The Wind Rises (,Kaze Tachinu) is the last film directed by Hayao Miyazaki in Studio Ghibli. The film is based on the manga of the Kaze Tachinu, which was a turn based on a short story by Tatsuo Hori.
Kaze Tachinu is a biographical movie of Jiro Horikoshi, the designer of the Mitsubishi A5M and the Mitsubishi A6M Zero. Both were fighter aircraft that the Empire of Japan used in World War II.
The movie was released on July 2013 in Japan, which soon will be release early by Disney on November 2013 in Los Angeles so it can qualify for Academy Awards consideration so that the film could be expanded until February 2014.

Ken Sugimori

Ken Sugimori was born on 27 January 1966 in Tokyo, Japan. He was a game designer, illustrator, director and manga artist. He was well known as the character designer of Pokémon series. He design 151 Pokémon by himself. Even now, he had a team for designing new Pokémon, he still the one who made the final design. He made Pokémon character by observing animals, plants and other objects. Like for example a cat Pokémon Meowth, rose Pokémon Roserade, a gothic Lolita inspired Pokémon Gothielle
For me he was a great observer and very creative. Making 151 kinds of monster must not be easy moreover if he had to make the Pokémon speciality, the Pokémon ability, setting another colour for the rare Pokémon, etc.

My Neighbor Totoro

My Neighbor Totoro has been one of Studio Ghibli’s most successful movies. The company logo itself featured Totoro from the movie. This movie was first release on April 1988 in Japan and was re-released by Disney on March 2006 with an English dub by a world-wide artist, Dakota and Elle Fanning as Satsuki and Mei (two main characters), Timothy Daly as Mr.Kusakabe (Satsuki and Mei’s father), Pat Caroll as Granny, Lea Salonga as Mrs. Kusakabe (Satsuki and Mei’s mom), and Frank Welker as Totoro and Catbus.
Totoro itself has some influences to some things like recently, this year a new species velvet worm was discovered in Vietnam and was named after Totoro, because there was a character called catbus in the movie which was a many-legged cat and resembles the velvet worm.
Totoro also appears in Toy Story 3 in the ending part when the theme song was sung.

Paper Knitting

Knitting has been known from a long time ago. The early European knitting started since the 13th century. Knitting itself was a method to make clothes, etc. by using two long needles to connect thread into joined rows.

Today there were some artists that use knitting for their sculpture.

Ivano Vitali is one of artists who use knitting for his sculpture. He was a paper artist who made his own threads using newspaper and knitted them. He started to use newspaper as his main medium on 1995 and started to knit newspaper on 2002. He never uses glue for his works and never paints them. The color was based on the paper he was using. In 2004, he made a dress out of newspaper “La Gazzetta dllo Sport”. His newspaper clothes were wearable and he did some fashion exhibitions with his paper clothes.

collector

Collector is a person who is seeking, collecting, cataloging, and displaying things as a hobby. Collector usually collects thing which became their interest even if the things itself were meaningless. For example in 19th century, collecting stamps has been most of collectors’ interest.
Today people start to collect different things that were unique and catch their interest, such as colleting Barbie dolls, cars, bottle label and others. I used to collect useless object too last time, but then my dad told me to threw it away since I don’t kept them properly. I used to collect mineral water label from every country that I visited. But some of them were defective because some of them had a recyclable plastic that was so easy to smudge.

Pop-up development

Pop up books were inspired by moving books that was first made in 13th century and was made for adults, not a books for children. The first moving book was a volvelle which was a wheel shaped paper that could be rotated. It was used for illustrating theories, astronomical predictions, telling fortune, and more.  By then, in 18th century a publisher named John Newbery published a moving book for children.
In 19th century the first pop-up book was made by Ernest Nister and Lothar Meggendorfer. These books were very popular in German and Britain, which later spread to other countries.

Nowadays, pop-up was developed into art besides children books. Creativity has made some people start to make sculpture from pop-up paper.

Hayao Miyazaki was a Japanese film director, animator, screenwriter, producer and a manga artist. He was famous for being one of the producer of Studio Ghibli animation films and attracted American animator Walt Disney. One of the most famous film was Spirited Away (the one I've been posted months ago). He started his career since 1961 and directed his first film in 1971, "Lupin III, Castle of Cagliostro". Then he co-founded Studio Ghibli and directed successful films such as My Neighbor Totoro (Studio Ghibli's icon), Kiki’s Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Howl’s Moving Castle, and more.
